The Great Exhibition
This year we’ve decided to pause the Flower and Vegetable Competition and instead are holding The Great Exhibition. Prince Albert held the original Great Exhibition 250 years ago, at the Crystal Palace in London. The Daily Record reported almost 126 years ago on August 28, 1895, that the officers of the Waterloo Horticultural Society held a similar free exhibition of Flowers, Fruit, and Vegetables. This show was part of the original plan set out on February 4 that year to hold a show at the town hall, which would be free admittance with no judging or prizes given.
We held our virtual exhibition weekly, starting in June, 126 years after the first Waterloo exhibition. We asked our members to share photos and stories of their gardens weekly. All contributors' names will go into a random draw for a prize which will be announced in September.
For the 2021 version of the show we had over 26 exhibitors with over 120 entries. Thanks to all who participated!
